Transforming the essential into the unexpected

We believe a home's design can simultaneously support a higher degree of functionality and beauty. By making strategic choices it is possible to evolve essential shelter components into design features.  For the Emma we chose to accentuate the open plan and outdoor connection by the integration of refined wood and window details.  The Emma's exposed timber trusses expand the space upwards with eye-catching detail, turning the tables on an area normally relegated to an attic function.  The open, loft-like plan is unified under this timber structure, but private areas are zoned together along one edge.  The consolidation of the bedrooms and storage into a wood-clad volume not only brings a sophisticated backdrop to the common area, but encourages a clutter free panorama. At the opposite wall a handful of crafted window openings with elegant pivot and sliding mechanisms connect the interior common areas to the yard and views beyond.
