# 009 Creating the Tangible Wood Sample Box

Creating a Wood Sample Box
Materials

I’ve been wanting to create a standard set of sample boxes for a while: woods, tiles, glass types, fabrics…and on and on. Wood is first up. All of these random cuts of wood have got to go!

Just a portion of the office collection…not exactly an organized feeling. My vision is for a collection of samples that would be right at home on the Things Organized Neatly Tumblr.

The first selection of woods I’m including in the sample box are: alder, birch, ipe, maple, poplar, red oak, walnut, white oak, and zebrawood. To start, it’s a small run of just 3 sets. Each fabricated sample is 3/4” x 4” x 4”. I’m having these fabricated by House of Hardwood in Los Angeles. Visiting this lumber warehouse always makes my heart sing. I’m a sucker for high-quality natural materials.

Keeping fingers crossed for Tuesday when the cuts will be ready for pick up!
